West Lyon rolls DNH 42-0 for class 1A title

CEDAR FALLS (AP) -- West Lyon struck early and often to run away with another state championship.

Cody Ahrendt ran for three touchdowns and Adam Teunissen scored twice as the Wildcats routed Dike-New Hartford 42-0 Saturday to win the Class 1A state championship.

Ahrendt, a 6-foot-3, 215-pounder, rumbled 50 yards for a touchdown less than two minutes into the game and scored two more times on short runs to stake West Lyon (12-2) to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter.

Teunissen caught a 14-yard touchdown pass from Cody Grotewold and topped off the victory by returning a fumble 98 yards for a score.

It was the third state title for West Lyon, which forced three turnovers and held Dike-New Hartford (11-3) to 109 yards.
