Hawks beat Alabama at Paradise Jam 55-47

ST. THOMAS, Virgin Islands (AP) -- Zach McCabe scored 13 points and Eric May 12 as Iowa came back from an early 10-point deficit to defeat Alabama 55-47 on Saturday night in a consolation round game at the Paradise Jam.

The Hawkeyes (2-2) trailed 11-1 after just 5:33 had elapsed before rallying. A 3-pointer by May gave Iowa its first lead, 18-16, with 5:04 left in the half.

The game was tied five times in the half's final 5 minutes before Jordan Stoermer's two free throws gave Iowa a 29-27 lead with 2 seconds left.

After a tying basket at the start of the second half by JaMychal Green, who led the Crimson Tide (2-2) with 17 points, Iowa regained the lead and never relinquished it.

McCabe scored four points during an 11-2 run that widened Iowa's lead to 49-39 with 6:19 remaining.

Iowa will face Long Beach State on Monday in its next game at the tournament, while Alabama will play Saint Peter's.

Next Saturday, August 26, the Packers head to Denver to play the Broncos at 8:00 p.m. on KWWL. The KWWL News at 10 will run on the CW....
