CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The trial of a man accused of kidnapping a convenience store clerk in Cedar Rapids has been delayed.

Keith Van Elson Jr. is charged with first-degree kidnapping in connection with the abduction of a female clerk at knife point from the Kwik Shop on First Avenue on May 17.

Police found Elson at his apartment several hours later.  The clerk was locked in another room.

The woman told police she was sexually assaulted.

Elson's trial has now been set for March 7th.

Court documents say Elson plans to claim insanity, diminished capacity and intoxication as his defense.
