UNI Women win their second game in a row 70-57 over SE Missouri

CAPE GIRARDEAU, MISSOURI (KWWL)-- The University of Northern Iowa women's basketball team connected on 10 three-point shots, seven in the first half, on the way to a 70-57 win at Southeast Missouri State Wednesday night.

Jacqui Kalin led the Panthers (2-0) with 18 points and six assists, and Lizzie Boeck added 17 points and seven rebounds. Erin Brocka finished with seven points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Panthers.

Brittany Harriel led the Redhawks (1-2) with 17 points and five rebounds, and Bianca Beck added 12 points.

The Panthers shot 13-of-28 (46.4 percent) from the floor, including 7-of-15 (46.7 percent) from behind the arc, in the first half, taking a 37-27 lead into the break.

UNI scored the first seven points of the second half to extend its lead to 44-27. The Panthers led by at least 10 and as many as 21 the rest of the way.

The Panthers shot 24-of-54 (44.4 percent) in the contest, including 10-of-27 (37.0 percent) from three-point range. UNI finished 12-of-16 (75 percent) from the free-throw line.

The Redhawks were 17-of-38 (44.7 percent) from the floor, including 6-of-11 (54.5 percent) from three-point range. SEMO shot 17-of-25 (68.0 percent) from the free-throw line.

UNI held a 34-25 rebounding advantage, and the Panthers held SEMO to just two offensive rebounds and no second-chance points. UNI committed 12 turnovers while dishing out 21 assists.

The Panthers return to action on Sunday when they host 19th ranked Iowa State in the home opener.
