Sumner kicks off campaign for new hospital

SUMNER (KWWL) -- Campaign organizers and lead donors gathered at the Sunset Theatre in Sumner Wednesday to kick off the Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) capital campaign, "The Heart of Your Community."

The fundraising campaign is part of a $17.4 million project that will build a 51,850-square-foot facility just south of the current hospital. The new, 20-percent-larger facility, to be built all on one level, will allow for larger private patient rooms and significant expansions of rehabilitation services, outpatient specialty clinics and ambulatory surgery areas.

"We are pleased to announce that we are already nearly three-quarters of the way to our goal of $1.5 million," said Mary Wells, CEO of CMH. "We had a handful of lead donors that committed generous gifts that have helped us get to this point, and we are still in the process of contacting many other major supporters."

To date, a total of $1,105,797 has been raised toward the goal. According to Wells, with continued community support, CMH should reach goal next summer and break ground on the new facility, which will take approximately 13 months to complete. It will take an additional three to four months to remove the existing structure and complete the grounds and parking lot.
