New Waterloo Fire Station

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Two years ago, the Waterloo City Council approved the design phase of a new fire station that would replace the one at the corner of LaPorte Road and San Marnan Drive.

Fire station number two is located at 1812 LaPorte Road. It's about a couple blocks down from the old fire station on San Marnan Drive. That fire station will be replaced by CVS Pharmacy.

Fire Chief Doug Carter has watched this project from the beginning four years ago. He says the Waterloo Fire Department hasn't had a new building in the last 40 years.

"We expect this building to be in service for decades," Carter said.

At any given time the station has five fire fighters working and living at the station, so making this station a home was really important.

"We went from one large bunk room to individual sleeping room which is the modern standard. Allows a little more privacy and also more privacy with female firefighters so everybody has their own space," Carter said.

The public is invited to an open house Tuesday afternoon from 4-7 p.m. to look inside the building.
