West Delaware drops slugfest to SC Heelan 42-35

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- A back and forth battle launched #5 Sioux City Heelan to the Class 3A state final in a thrilling 42-35 win over West Delaware.

West Delaware spent much of the game rallying from behind as the Hawks forced a tie on 3 different occasions.  The last coming when quarterback Jordan Hoffman scored on a one yard sneak knotting the score at 35 with under 6 minutes left to play.

However, a costly turnover would be West Delaware's undoing, as Heelan quarterback Paul Jacobson scored on a sneak of his own for the game winning touchdown.  In the end, West Delaware fell one win shy of their first state title game appearance since 2005.
