West Delaware ends Waverly-SR's reign 3-2

CEDAR RAPIDS(KWWL)--Mackenzie Harbaugh's 15 kills and 19 digs helped propel West Delaware into the Class 3A championship match with a stunning 25-17, 23-25, 25-22, 22-25, 15-11 victory over second-ranked and defending Class 3A champion Waverly-Shell Rock Friday afternoon in Cedar Rapids.

 

The victory sets up a 3A championship match between the Hawks and fellow WaMAC conference rival Mount Vernon at 1:00 p.m. Saturday. Mount Vernon has handed West Delaware all three of its regular season losses.

 

The scrappy Hawks (41-3) had four players with 10 or more kills and five players with 10 or more digs. Jenna Hermson added 57 assists with 10 digs.

 

Waverly-Shell Rock was led by Morgan Kuhrt's 29 kills and 11 digs. The Go-Hawks finish the year with a 49-2 overall mark.

    The Missouri Valley Conference exercised an option to keep the men's basketball tournament in Saint Louis through at least 2020. The previous agreement ended in 2018 with a two year to remain at the Scottrade Center. The tournament, known as Arch Madness, will conduct it's 30th straight tournament in Saint Louis in 2020.
