Wulfekuhle resigns as head coach at Dubuque Senior

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- After two seasons and a 1-17 record as head coach of the Dubuque Senior Rams, Mike Wulfekuhle has resigned.

Wulfekuhle, a 1979 graduate of Loras College, began coaching sophomore football at Dubuque Wahlert right after graduation.  In 1984 he began his career at Senior, leading the freshman football program.  He has also led the sophomore program and was Defensive Coordinator for the varsity program.

Wulfekuhle has also coached baseball and men's basketball while at Senior.

Dubuque Senior Athletic Director, Jim Jarchow, says he was surprised by Wulfekuhle's decision and the school did not prompt the resignation.  He says Wulfekuhle resigned for personal reasons.

Jarchow says the job is open, but he does have some people in mind that he wants to talk to.

Jarchow adds that there are two selling points to potential candidates.  First, he says that he thinks Senior has the best athletes and more of them than they've had in a long time.  Second, Jarchow believes the Dubuque Community School District will see new athletic facilities in the near future.

The school board still needs to accept Wulfekuhle's resignation before it becomes final.
