Defending Champion Tripoli rolls in first round of state volleyball

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL)--Megan Gilbert had 16 kills and nine digs to lead defending 1A champion Tripoli to a 25-7, 25-9, 25-14 victory over East Union in Class first round play at the Iowa State Volleyball Tournament in Cedar Rapids. 

The two-time defending champions face LeMars Gehlen Catholic in the Class 1A semifinals Friday at 6:00 p.m. 

The Tigers dominated from the start, hitting .467 as a team in its 25-7 first set win and ended up hitting .365 with just eight attack errors for the match. In addition to Gilbert's 16 kills, teammate Bailey Kirchhoff added nine kills with five service aces. The Tigers had 14 aces in the match.
