Veterans Day Interesting Facts

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- November 11 was originally set as a U.S. legal holiday to honor Armistice Day, or the end of World War I in 1918.  It officially became known as Veterans Day in 1954 to honor American veterans of all wars.

There are about 23 million American veterans alive today.  Roughly 1,000 veterans of World War II pass away every day.

The United States has fought in 12 wars in its history. 48 million men and women have served our nation in uniform during that time.
