Hoiberg era begins for Cyclones Friday night

AMES (KWWL) -- The Fred Hoiberg era officially begins Friday night at 7 p.m., as the Iowa State men's basketball team plays host to Northern Arizona in the 2010-11 season-opener.

Hoiberg, who was an All-American at Iowa State (1992-95) and played 10 years in the NBA, was named Iowa State's 19th head men's basketball coach in April.

Iowa State played only one exhibition game, defeating Dubuque on Friday by a score of 100-50. The Cyclones played one closed scrimmage vs. Bradley in their other pre-season game.

Iowa State is 83-20 in home season-openers and has not lost a season-opening game since falling to Northern Iowa on Nov. 23, 1997 (54-48). The Cyclones have won 12-straight season-opening tilts.
