Busy time for high school sports teams


EASTERN IOWA (KWWL) -- The next few days are shaping up to be busy ones for area high school athletes and their fans.

The excitement is already underway in Cedar Falls as the Iowa High School Athletic Association football semifinals have started at the UNI-Dome.

Tripoli and Lenox have already played today.  Tripoli lost to Lenox 39-18 to end their run for a state championship.  Lenox will take on either Armstrong-Ringsted or Fremont-Mills who play this afternoon at 1:00 pm.

Tripoli fans are also in Cedar Rapids to watch the volleyball team play East Union at the US Cellular Center.

In Janesville, fans held a send-off ceremony for their volleyball team.  They take on Alta at the US Cellular Center.

Then at 7:30 pm tonight, Dike-New Hartford and Grundy Center will battle on the volleyball court, also at the US Cellular Center.

The action doesn't slow down on Friday either. 

The Class 1A football semifinals kick-off at 10:30 am when North Tama takes on WACO at the UNI-Dome.  Then at 4:30 pm, the Little Hawks from Iowa City High take on Bettendorf.

Then in Cedar Rapids, Mount Vernon, Waverly-Shell Rock, West Delaware, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Iowa City West will all play in volleyball semifinals.

On Saturday, volleyball wraps up in Cedar Rapids with the four championship games.  Eastern Iowa is guaranteed to be represented in two of those games.

Then in Cedar Falls, the football semifinals will continue with the Class 1A match-up between Dike-New Hartford and West Branch.

The football semifinals wrap-up on Monday with Class 2A and Class 3A.  North Fayette will take on Iowa City Regina at 10:30 am and West Delaware battles Sioux City Bishop Heelan at 4:30 pm.

KWWL will have complete coverage of all the November Madness, not to mention the Hawkeyes, Cyclones and Panthers which have multiple teams in action throughout the weekend.

Iowa's News Channel hasn't forgotten hockey fans.  The Waterloo Black Hawks are home against Green Bay on Friday and then travel to Des Moines on Saturday night.

The Dubuque Fighting Saints have a two-game homestand this weekend.  They take on Chicago on Friday and Muskegon on Saturday.

The Cedar Rapids RoughRiders are on the road.  They play Fargo on Friday and Sioux City on Saturday.
