Waverly-SR and West Delaware advance at 3A State Volleyball Tournament

CEDAR RAPIDS(KWWL)--Rachel Peth's 14 kills propelled defending Class 3A champion Waverly-Shell Rock to a 25-11, 25-22, 31-29 victory over tournament newcomer Union of LaPorte City in Class 3A play at the Girls State Volleyball Tournament in Cedar Rapids Wednesday night.

The second-ranked Go-Hawks had 13 blocks as a team with Kelsey Roggemann leading Waverly-Shell Rock with six (1 solo, five block assists). In addition to Peth's 14 kills, teammate Morgan Kuhrt added 10. Ali Ingersoll served four service aces for the Go-Hawks, who improve to 49-1.

Union's Sam Barz had 10 kills to lead the Knights, who end the year at 30-7.

Waverly-Shell Rock will play West Delaware in the Class 3A semifinals at 1:30 p.m. Friday afternoon.

Alison Pasker knocked down 17 kills to pace third-ranked West Delaware to a 25-14, 25-17, 25-20 victory over Williamsburg in Class 3A first round action at the Iowa State Volleyball Tournament Wednesday night in Cedar Rapids.

West Delaware hit .302 as a team with Pasker knocking down 17 kills in 32 attempts. Jessica McDonald and Rayne Cook added eight kills for the Hawks while Mackenzie Harbaugh added six kills and a match-high 15 digs. Mackenzie Bigbee had 10 kills and seven digs for Williamsburg, who ends the year at 25-10.
