Iowa City West whips Linn-Mar in 4A State Volleyball

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL)-- Third-ranked Iowa City West advanced to the Class 4A state semifinals for the third-straight year with a 26-24, 25-23, 25-14 victory over unranked Linn-Mar in first round action at the Iowa State Volleyball Tournament Wednesday afternoon in Cedar Rapids.

The Women of Troy, last year's Class 4A runner-up, used a balanced attack to hold off their fellow Mississippi Valley Conference foe for the third time this season. Four players, led by Lexi Potter's 10 kills, had six or more kills in the match while Katie Kelly added a team-high 17 digs. The Women of Troy were also aided by 13 service aces, with Olivia Mekies' four aces leading the team.

Linn-Mar, who finishes the year 18-19, was led by Kiah Stokes' 10 kills, four blocks and nine digs.

Iowa City West improves to 36-7 and will play Cedar Rapids Kennedy in the Class 4A semifinals.
