Judge reverses city liquor license denial

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- A decision to deny a Waterloo liquor store of its license is reversed.

Ara of Iowa, Incorporated, the owner of East Fourth Street Liquor asked the Waterloo City Council to renew its license, but it was denied.

Members of the public had expressed concern about the location, and negative impact on the community, but on Monday, a judge ruled there was no evidence to show the license should be taken away.

In June, a robbery occurred at the store. The store clerk shot and killed two robbers using a gun he kept in the store for protection. No charges were filed against the store clerk. Two other robberies occurred in 2009.

The city has 30 days to appeal the judge's decision.
