DNH fights to the end, defeats Woodward-Granger for semi-final trip

DIKE (KWWL) -- Eric Joblinske scored 3 times and the Dike-New Hartford defense shut down Woodward-Granger's powerful offense in the 4th quarter as the Wolverines held on winning 34-27 to move to the state semifinals.

The two teams traded offensive blows in the first half, as DNH fullback Brennan Miller plunged in from 2 yards out to give the Wolverines a quick 7-0 edge.  Woodward-Granger responded with a 1 yard touchdown from Jack Manning followed by a field goal for the 10-7 edge.

DNH struck right back with Joblinske's first touchdown as he caught a bomb from quarterback Josh Rekers for a 55 yard score, but W-G would lead at half after quarterback Taylor Ashman scored from 3 yards in the final minutes.

In the second half, Miller picked up his second touchdown for DNH grabbing a 9 yard pass from Rekers, but another field goal and a 5 yard touchdown by W-G's punishing back Andrew McCune put the Hawks up 27-20 late in the ball game.

DNH rallied in the final quarter, however, as Joblinske busted off a 60 yard touchdown to tie the game at 27.  A minute later W-G suffered a special teams error with a bad punt snap which would lead to Joblinske's final score of the game.  With just over 4 minutes remaining, the Wolverine senior found the zone from 8 yards out for the difference maker.

With the win, the Wolverines (10-2) knocked off an undefeated team for the second straight playoff game.  They'll have a shot to repeat the feat when they face West Branch (12-0) in Saturday's semifinals.
