Waterloo school board approves technology purchases


WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The Waterloo Community School District Board of Education approved three major technology purchases at Monday night's board meeting.

The district will purchase 644 Promethean ActiViews document cameras. Each of these devices will integrate with previously purchased Promethean ActivBoards. The ActivViews allow teachers to display live images or videos into flip charts. The ActivViews cost $473 each for a total purchase cost of $304,830.

In addition to the ActiViews, the district will also purchase 419 Promethean ActivArena upgrades which allow two people to interact with the boards simultaneously. Each ActivArena costs $97 for a total purchase price of $40,651.

The board also approved the purchase of 205 Dell computers and servers for middle schools throughout the district. The purchase price of those computers is $184,932.
