CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- One teenager has died after a rollover crash early Monday morning.

It happened around 1:40 a.m. along Cottage Grove Ave. and 34th St. SE in Cedar Rapids.

Police released additional details on Monday afternoon. Police say a 1997 Ford Taurus with four teenagers inside rolled multiple times and landed upside down. Police say the 17-year-old driver, Ramius Hardiman of Cedar Rapids, lost control at the top of the hill.

17-year-old Jose Mendoza was a backseat passenger in the car. He was injured in the accident and taken to St. Luke's Hospital, then flown to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where he died from his injuries.

The front seat passenger, 18-year-old Katie Opperman of Central City, was charged with Public Intoxication and Persons Under the Legal Age. She was taken to the Linn County Jail.

Another Cedar Rapids teenager was riding in the back seat.

Police say the investigation will continue, but no charges have been filed at this time.
