Tripoli stuns #3 NE Hamilton, advances to 8-Man semis

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- Tripoli running back Tyler Lenox rushed for 336 yards and 4 touchdowns as the Panthers edged 4th ranked Northeast Hamilton in a shoot-out 42-36.

The Panthers avenged their regular season loss to the Trojans by countering everything Northeast Hamilton threw at them.

Tripoli opened the scoring on their first drive as quarterback James Barz hit Cody Nilges on a 29 yard scoring strike to take a quick 8-0 lead.  Northeast Hamilton provided the only other scoring in the half as quarterback Marcus Mechaelsen scored on runs of 5 and 8 yards, while also kicking a 25 yard field goal for an 8 point halftime lead.

Tripoli tied it back up on Lenox's first touchdown of the half, going up the gut 9 yards to the end zone.  The two teams traded blows over the next 2 quarters until the Trojans' Mechaelsen scored on a quarterback sneak with 4 minutes remaining to knot the score at 36 apiece.

The Panthers responded with a drive consuming 3 minutes of the clock, while Lenox capped it with a 3 yard run to take a 6 point lead with 54 seconds remaining.  Tripoli then stopped Northeast Hamilton as Lenox tackled Mechaelsen short of the sticks on a 4th and 6 play to seal the deal.

Tripoli (11-1) advances to the state semi-finals where they will meet Lenox (12-0) at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 11.
