Tigers fall to Little Hawks in quarters 49-28

IOWA CITY (KWWL)- It was a disastrous start for Cedar Falls. And one, they couldn't recover from.

City High scored 14 points 29 seconds into the game, en route to a 49-28 win over the Tigers in Friday night's quarterfinals.

On the first play from scrimmage, City High's Andrew McNulty hit Jeremy Johnson for a 28 yard touchdown.  And things would go from bad to worse for the Tigers.

The ensuing kickoff was mishandled, and recovered by the Little Hawks Ronald Thompson.  Thompson then took City's second play from scrimmage 33 yards  to the endzone to give his team a 14-0 lead.

Cedar Falls appeared to settle in on their next series.  The Tigers drove the ball deep into Little Hawk territory, but fumbled the ball after Jordan Doyle and Barkley Hill had trouble on the exchange.  The Little Hawks recovered and put together a long drive, capped off by a short Cedric Readus touchdown run.  City was off to a commanding 21-0 lead.

In the second half, the Tigers offense began looking like the one that had helped them to wins in their first 11 games.  Barkley Hill scored two touchdowns on the ground on Cedar Falls' first two series, but the defense was unable to pick up the pace.  The Little Hawks scored touchdowns on their first seven possessions of the game.  City will Play Bettendorf in the semifinals.
