Go Red for Women raises heart health awareness

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The American Heart Association held it's annual 'Go Red for Women' luncheon Friday in Waterloo.   It raises awareness of Heart Disease, which is the number one killer of women.

The event had screenings and lots of demonstrations on food and fitness.  That's not to mention all the vendor booths.

One heart disease survivor had a story every woman should hear.

"I was in a rowing class.  I felt really winded and decided to get tested.  They did a stress test and some other tests and everything came back ok.  So, I insisted that something wasn't right. They did an angiogram and found two blocked arteries, 95 percent blocked and they cleaned those out.  I'm living my life again and it's amazing," Lana Hochreiter said.

"Our seventh annual event in the Cedar Valley.  Over 400 women here learning about heart health and how to have fun while doing it.  They're learning how to cook heart healthy meals, bidding on a silent auction and getting lots of great information," Linda Bowman said.
