Man tasered after he runs from police

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- A Cedar Rapids man was tasered Wednesday night after police say he ran from them.

Officers were on patrol in the 300 block of 15th Street SE at around 10:00 pm Wednesday night when a vehicle passed them with no license plate light.  Officers say when they turned around to pull the vehicle over, the driver, Antonio Danez McGee, 31, accelerated.

Police say McGee continued on 15th Street SE before turning west on 6th Avenue.  He then turned south on 14th Street SE, running the stop sign.  Police say he then went east on 7th Avenue and ran the stop sign at 7th Avenue and 15th Street SE.  Officers say McGee was going 40 m.p.h. in the 25 m.p.h. zones.

Police say he then turned on 15th Street towards Mt. Vernon Road SE, ran the red light and turned right.  He then went south on 9th Avenue SE to 10th Street and ran the stop sign there.

Officers say he then ran a stop signs at 10th Street and 10th Avenue SE and 11th Avenue and 15th Street.  Police say he was going 50 m.p.h. in a 25 m.p.h. zone in the 1000 block of 11th Ave SE.

Police say McGee then continued on Mt. Vernon Road before turning into the alley between 11th and 12 Avenues.  Officers finally stopped him in the area of 12th Street and 11th Avenue.

Police ordered McGee to the ground when he got out of the car but didn't follow instructions. Officers say he kept walking away with his hands in front of him and was told he would be tasered if he didn't go to the ground.  At that time, police say he went to the ground but kept his hands underneath him.

Police say McGee then made an aggressive move towards the officer and the officer tasered him.

Officers found what they believed to be cocaine in his hands and in his car.

McGee faces four counts of speeding, six counts of obedience to a traffic control device, attempting to elude, interference with official acts, no proof of insurance, improper license plate light, possession of a controlled substance and no driver's license.
