Trial delayed for Iowa City doctor accused of lying

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS (KWWL) -- The trial for an Iowa City doctor charged with falsifying a stabbing report, has been delayed in Cook County, Illinois.

Dr. Gary Hunninghake, 63, of Coralville, the Director of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Sciences, admitted in May that he lied to police when he told them that he had been stabbed and robbed on April 24, while jogging on the Chicago Riverwalk.

Chicago Police say the story "embarrassed their city".

Hunninghake has been on paid leave from the university since April 23.

His trial has been pushed back to December 20 in Cook County Circuit Court.

Hunninghake is charged with felony disorderly conduct for filing the false police report.

Just after admitting to lying to Chicago Police, University of Iowa Police issued five search warrants for Hunninghake.  No charges have been filed yet in Iowa related to those search warrants.
