UPDATE: Hawks upset Michigan State 37-6


IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Iowa knocked off the #5 team in the nation, the Michigan State Spartans 37-6 Saturday afternoon in Iowa City.

Quarterback Ricky Stanzi passed for 190 yards and 3 scores on the day.

Stanzi connected with Colin Sandeman for three-yard touchdown pass to put the Hawkeyes up 7-0 in the first quarter.

The Hawkeyes tacked on a field goal with 2:44 left in the first to make it 10-0.

Late in the first quarter, Iowa's Tyler Sash intercepted Kirk Cousins and pitched the ball to Micah Hyde who ran 66 yards for the touchdown to give the Hawkeyes the 17-0 lead.

In the second quarter, Stanzi connected with Adam Robinson on a 32-yard TD. The Hawkeyes missed the extra point and lead 23-0.

Later in the second quarter, Adam Robinson ran it in from two yards out to make it 30-0 Iowa.

Stanzi then hit Marvin McNutt for a 22-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter to make it 37-0.

Michigan State scored on a 6-yard pass from Kirk Cousins to B. J. Cunningham to make it 37-6, the Spartans failed to convert the 2-point play.
