Hempstead tops off CR Washington 14-13

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Cedar Rapids Washington started the season with five straight wins, while Dubuque Hempstead enters the night with a six game winning streak. Tuesday was a windy night in Dubuque, as was the case across Eastern Iowa and an interesting match up and Cedar Rapids Washington traveled to Dubuque Hempstead.

In the first quarter Cedar Rapids Washington gets on the board. From a familiar name known as Alex Carr with a ten yard run. Its 6-0 Washington after the missed extra point.

Then, start of the second quarter, Carr again, this time he gets the ball and takes it more than 70 yards. Its 13-0 Washington.

Just before half Hempstead taking advantage of good field position as Quarterback Cody Leach hooks up with Brad Duwe on a 25 yard touchdown pass. That makes it 13-7 Warriors at half.

In the second half Hempstead comes out strong, marching across the field 80 yards. Then from the one yard line, Leach keeps it himself. That makes it a tied game at 13 all. Until the extra point attempt. It's good and that would be the game winner.

Hempstead wins it 14-13.
