Man arrested in connection with Dubuque cab driver robbery

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Dubuque Police have arrested a man in connection with the alleged robbery of a cab driver in Dubuque.

Dubuque Police say they arrested Curtis Smith, 24, in the area of 20th and White Street at around 9:30 Monday morning on a parole violation out of Illinois.  Police say Smith initially gave officers false information which led to him being charged with Interference with Official Acts.

After further investigation, Smith has also been charged with Robbery 1st degree in connection with the robbery of cab driver Merle Forbes, 76, of Platteville, on October 21 in Dubuque.

Forbes told police that he was robbed in the 200 block of E. 21st St. around 4:45 Thursday after he drove a man from Platteville, Wisconsin to Dubuque. The driver says when they got to their destination, the suspect took out a gun and robbed the driver of some cash.

Smith is in the Dubuque County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond.
