Iowa City Police tase man while breaking up fight

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- Iowa City Police say they had to use a taser on a man while breaking up a fight on Monday night.

Officers were called to an apartment at 2401 Highway 6 East at around 11:40 Monday night and say they could clearly hear people fighting.

Officers say they pounded on the door several times before someone answered.  As they were trying to figure out what was going on, officers say two men in the apartment tried slamming the door on them.

Officers say when they pushed back, the door came off the frame and they entered the apartment.

Police say that when they ordered everyone to the floor, several of them refused and officers tased William Williams, 20, of Iowa City.

Police say Williams was kicking at officers and was combative with them until he was placed in cuffs.

Williams is charged with Assault on Peace Officers.
