Tripoli shuts down Clarksville 28-14 for district runner-up spot

CLARKSVILLE (KWWL) -- An early offensive shootout quickly turned into a defensive stalemate as Tripoli held on to defeat Clarksville 28-14.  The win gives the Panthers the #2 district seed and a home contest when the postseason begins Wednesday night.

The two teams traded jabs in the first half as Tripoli standout running back Tyler Lennox scored on runs of 15 and 7 yards, while Clarksville quarterback Scott Hempen threw touchdown passes of 70 and 6 yards.  Still the Indians trailed 16 to 14 midway through the second quarter.

Tripoli added to their lead on a 25 yard touchdown pass from James Barz to Austin Drewis, while the Panthers' first half scoring was capped on a long interception return for a touchdown with just 6 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

In the second half, Hempen was picked off twice by Drewis as both teams failed to score in the final 25 minutes.
