West Branch takes district title from North Cedar 28-21

STANWOOD (KWWL) -- North Cedar looked like it had its first district title wrapped up in school history.

But the Knights were unable to weather a furious West Branch comeback, as the Bears spoiled the Knights party winning 28-21.

With the win, West Branch takes home the Class 1A district 6 title.

North Cedar's dream season looked like it might continue in the first half.  Quarterback Jordan Hay rushed for one touchdown and threw two to put the Knights up 21-0 at the half.

Butch Pedersen's Bears, however, turned the second half into a Knights nightmare.

West Branch got some momentum in the third quarter off a 14 yard hook and ladder play.

Travis Maher capped off the drive with a 15 yard touchdown run to finally get the Bears on the board.

West Branch used a couple of special teams plays to get back in the game.  By the time this one ended, the Bears had scored 28 unanswered.

West Branch will play Turkey Valley in the first round of the playoffs on Wednesday.
