Honor Flight veteran survived Battle of the Bulge

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL) -- Harold Lindstrom of Dubuque was a U.S. Army Infantryman during the battle of the Bulge in World War 2. Harold was one of 89 veterans on this week's Honor Flight of Greater Dubuque. He talked about his experience during that critical, but costly, battle.

Harold says, "Germans are shelling us all the time. Men would get wounded and then freeze to death-if we didn't get them out of there. I was lucky. I came through. I had a lot of close calls. Very many close calls. Shrapnel skinned the back of my neck. Bullets went through my shovel. God just seemed to be on my side, and I feel guilty about it. Why me. Why did I come through? But, I'm very thankful I came through it. I'm very thankful I did it for our country."
