CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -- The mother of Skylar Inman and her former boyfriend have been sentenced on child neglect and involuntary manslaughter charges in connection with the girl's death in 2008.

Thursday, a judge ruled Muldoon's sentence for involuntary manslaughter will not exceed five years in prison.  The judge also handed down a 10-year sentence on the child neglect charge.  The two sentences will run concurrently.

This comes after the sudden plea deal in August that ended Muldoon's murder trial.

Muldoon addressed the court before receiving his sentence.

''I would have taken her spot in a heart beat in a click of the finger, just like that.  I love Skylar, like she was my own daughter.  I loved her when she died and I love her to this day,'' Muldoon said.

Skylar's mother, Brianna Volesky had also been charged in the child's death.  She accepted a plea deal in exchange for testimony against Lee Muldoon.  Despite Muldoon's sentence on reduced charges, Volesky's plea deal stands.

Volesky was sentenced Thursday morning on the same charges as Muldoon and received the same sentence.  She will spend up to five years in prison on the involuntary manslaughter charge and up to 10 years in prison on the child neglect charge.  The two sentences will run concurrently.

Volesky declined to speak in court Thursday, but her attorney Julie Trachta spoke on her behalf.

''Ms. Volesky, when this investigation began two years ago has been reliving this every day of her life,'' Trachta said
