Conventional pap smears better than new technology to monitor women

DAVIS, CALIFORNIA (KWWL) -- Yearly conventional pap smears may be the best way to monitor women who've been treated for cervical lesions that could lead to cancer.

Researchers at the University of California-Davis used a computer model to determine pap smears are a cost-effective strategy for such patients.

Experts found newer technologies like the liquid-based pap and HPV testing were much costlier and didn't offer any additional benefits.
