Pill bottle leads to Iowa City burglary arrest

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -- A prescription bill bottle found in the home of a burglary suspect led to the man's arrest.

The victim told Iowa City Police that he came home at around 11:00 p.m. on October 13 and saw someone standing in next to the window in an upstairs bedroom.  When he walked into the house through the front door, he saw that both patio doors were open and his bedroom had been ransacked.

Later that night Coralville police found Alejandro Michael Groth, 18, at his home in Coralville and found a prescription pill bottle belonging to the burglary victim.

Groth told police that he had the bottle because he was friends with the victim.

During a search, police found other items belonging to the burglary victim in Groth's home and car.

Groth is charged with Third Degree Burglary.
