Iowa man charged in the death of Shannon Fischer

PRAIRIE DU CHIEN, WISCONSIN (KWWL) -- Prosecutors have charged a Marquette man with strangling his girlfriend to death four years ago in Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin; then hiding her body in the garbage.

26-year-old Michael Burroughs faces one count of first-degree reckless homicide and one count of hiding a corpse.

Authorities say Burroughs confessed to strangling 23-year-old Shannon Fischer in 2006 in a dispute over methamphetamine.

They say he kept Fischer's body in the apartment for several days, then dumped it in the trash.
