Panther hoopsters ready for new season

CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -- The UNI basketball team opens their exhibition slate in just 2 weeks with a lot of excitement surrounding the program after last year's incredible Sweet 16 run.  That excitement was on display as this year's squad met the media on Monday to talk about the upcoming season.

In the past few years, the Panther's deep bench played a very key role in this team's success, and they expect that will be the case once again this season.

"Really you sub at any position and there's not much of a letdown at all and I think that's one of the things that we took advantage of last year," said junior guard Johnny Moran, "and we're definitely going to take advantage of again this year."

Sophomore forward Jake Koch agrees, "We're just trying to play team ball.  Everybody can score, and that's what's great about our team.  You can go to somebody on any given play and they're going to be able to create a shot for themselves or for anybody else."

UNI opens exhibition play November 2 against Wartburg, while the regular season opens at the Carrier Dome against perennial power Syracuse 10 days later.
