Free document shredding in Waterloo

WATERLOO (KWWL)--  Free paper shredding happening in Waterloo this week.

It's part of ''Protect your Identify Week,'' put on by the Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Northeast Iowa.

Cintas Corporation provided the free service in the Cedar Valley, and across the country with the goal of making the Guinness Book of World Records for the most paper shredded in a 24-hour period.

Identify theft continues to be a growing program.  The number of victims in the U.S. reached more than 11 million last year.

''There's millions of people that are affected by someone stealing their identify for family members to complete strangers.'' said Roxanne Fuller with Consumer Credit Counseling Service.

If you couldn't make Monday's drop off, you can still bring your documents to the Consumer Credit Counseling Service's business on West Fourth Street this week for later pick up.
