Doctors say screen time leads to a child's obesity and attention problems

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Pediatricians should start asking kids about how much TV and computer time they get during check-ups.

In a new policy statement released today, the American Academy of Pediatrics links excessive screen time to attention problems, obesity, and sleep and eating disorders.

Experts say pediatricians should pay attention to kids' media habits, and ask whether kids have access to a TV or the Internet in their bedrooms.

The pediatrics group says the average kid gets about 7 hours of screen time every day, with TV's, computers, phones and other electronic devices.
