Former high school vice principal enters Alford plea

Posted:

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -- Former Hempstead High School vice principal Shane Oswald entered an Alford plea on Monday morning on charges he sexually exploited a student.

The 40-year-old had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Oswald is accused of having sex with a 17 year-old student. Charges of distribution of a controlled substance and providing alcohol to a minor were dropped. Oswald entered the Alford plea for sexual exploitation by a school employee.

An Alford plea means the defendant does not admit to the act, but admits the prosecution could likely prove the charge.

Sentencing is set for Dec. 20.

Oswald submitted his resignation to the Dubuque school district in April.
