JACKSON JUNCTION (KWWL) -- Wapsie Valley and Turkey Valley entered Friday night with identical six and one records and still in contention for the 1A district five championship.
The Turkey Valley Trojans looked to jump into win column once again as they take on the Wapsie Valley Warriors in Jackson Junction. The Warriors made a statement early, third play of the game and Conner O'Brien 62-yard scamper to the big house who already has more than 1,400 yards on the ground for the season. The touchdown gives Wapsie Valley a seven-nothing edge and they would take that lead into the second quarter.
Turkey Valley would strike back with Jordan Mitchell who has been averaging more than nine yards a carry. He takes it down to the one and then their quarter back Brady Kuennen takes it over center for a touchdown. The extra point try would be no good making the score seven to six Wapsie.
Late in the second quarter the Warriors put it out of reach by giving it to O'Brien and he would break tackles and dance his way down the middle of the field for a huge gain.
Then with roughly 30 seconds left before the half Wapsie Valley goes thru the air and connects with #22 Jake Curley making the score 14 to 6 at the half.
Final score: Wapsie Valley 21 - Turkey Valley 12.
