Some osteoporosis drugs may increase risk of breaking hip

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- The FDA says certain drugs that treat osteoporosis may increase the risk of a rare type of break in the hip or thighbone.

Warning labels will be added to the labels of Fosamax, Actonel, Boniva, Atlevia and Reclast.

While it's not certain the drugs are to blame, the FDA says many people with these types of fractures have been taking them.

Patients are advised not to stop taking these medications without talking to their doctors first.
