Cedar Rapids attorney named new district judge

DES MOINES (KWWL) -- A Cedar Rapids attorney has been named the new Sixth Judicial District judge.

Stephen Jackson Jr. was appointed by Governor Chet Culver on Wednesday.

Jackson, a 1988 graduate of the University of Notre Dame, got his law degree from the University of Iowa in 1991.

He worked at a Chicago law firm until 1994 when he returned to Iowa and joined the Jackson Law Office in Cedar Rapids.  He became partner in 2001 and the office name was changed to the Jackson and Jackson Law Office.

The vacancy was created when District Judge Kristin Hibbs retired after 22 years of service.

The 6th Judicial District serves Tama, Benton, Jones, Johnson, Iowa, and Linn counties.
