Court fight over prison construction

FT. MADISON (KWWL) -- A court fight is brewing over building a new Iowa prison in Ft. Madison.  Master Builders of Iowa and contractor Orville Crowley want a judge to stop the state from signing a contract with an Illinois firm that submitted the low bid.  They say the state ignored preference laws favoring local bidders when it signed a contract with Walsh Construction of Chicago.  Walsh bid $116.9 million on the project while The Weitz Co. of Des Moines submitted the lowest Iowa bid at $121.6 million.
