Man confesses to murder of missing Prairie du Chien woman

PRAIRE DU CHIEN, Wisc. (KWWL) - New information has been released about a missing persons case out of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.

At a news conference Monday, the Prairie du Chien Police Department announced that a man has confessed to the murder of Shannon Fischer.

26-year-old Michael John Burroughs, who police say was Fischer's boyfriend at the time she went missing, confessed to her murder on Sunday.

Burroughs will appear in a Crawford County courtroom at 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Police and the District Attorney's Office are requesting homicide charges against Burroughs for the murder of Fischer.

Fischer was last seen Dec. 18, 2006. She was 23 years old at the time.

She was seen around 4:00 p.m. that day at a friend's house on West Blackhawk Avenue in Prairie du Chien.

The last murder in Crawford County was five years ago.
