Betty De Boef was first elected to the House in 2000. Betty was born on February 19, 1951, in Prairie City, Iowa. Her father, George, was a farmer and her mother, Anna, was a homemaker. Betty has 6 brothers and sisters.
Betty attended grade school at Prairie City Christian. She graduated in 1969 from Pella Christian High School. Following graduation, she attended Dordt College in Sioux Center.
In 1971, Betty married Harold in Prairie City. Together, they have four children, Jennifer, South English, a manager of her brother's dental office, Eric, New Sharon, a dentist, Michael, Kansas City, Kansas, Senior Pastor at KC New Hope Church, and Lisa, a student at Kansas University Medical School.
Betty and Harold have twelve grandchildren. Throughout the years, they have fostered six children.
Betty and Harold have farmed together over 35 years and own a small wood-grinding business. They attend First Church of the Nazarene in Oskaloosa. Betty previously taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
Betty is a member of the Lion's Club, Keokuk County Republican Central Committee, Iowa County Republican Women, and serves on the Water Improvement Review Board.
