Registration deadline for FEMA disaster recovery funds approaching

DELHI (KWWL) -- FEMA's deadline to register for disaster assistance after this summer's flooding is Wednesday, October 13.

Delaware County held a meeting at the Maquoketa Valley High School Sunday evening to address lingering questions and present the different ways people can still apply for recovery funds.

Some people at the meeting expressed frustration after this long process of recovery, and many still have questions.

Even after FEMA disaster recovery centers close, those affected by flooding can still apply for help through Iowans Helping Iowans and other organizations.

"This is the recovery phase," Delaware County emergency management coordinator Mike Ryan said. "This is the hard part. This is where people are trying to put their residences and their lives back together again, and there's never enough money and enough of labor and enough of a lot of things."

Ryan said more than 300 Delaware County residents have applied for FEMA assistance.

So far, 38 of them have received the maximum amount of possibly recovery funds -- $29,900 dollars.
