Update: SIU beats UNI 45-38 in OT


CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS (KWWL) - The 15th-ranked Northern Iowa football team is taking on 23rd-ranked Southern Illinois. SIU scored first with a field goal early in the first quarter, but Quarterback Zach Davis made a 34-yard pass to give Panthers the 7 to 3 lead. Late in the quarter, the Salukis, took the ball into end zone to take the lead 10 to 7.

SIU took a big lead in the second quarter, 31-14, but UNI makes a comeback in the third quarter.  Rennie runs it in for a touchdown, later passes to Oordt for a second.

UNI began the fourth quarter trailing 31-28.  The team rallied, tying SIU 38-38 and forcing OT play.  SIU scored a quick touchdown, but the Panthers were not able to match it.   SIU wins 45-38.

The Panthers (2-2) jumped two spots in The Sports Network's poll after beating South Dakota State 24-14 last week.

UNI is looking to remain undefeated in Missouri Valley Football Conference action.

UNI has won its previous two MVFC contests, topping North Dakota State and South Dakota State.

Meanwhile, Southern Illinois ended a three-game losing streak with a 38-17 win at No. 19 Illinois State last week.

The Salukis, who were picked to win the MVFC, are 1-1 in league play entering the weekend.
