According to the Cedar Rapids Fire Department, 59-year old Ernest L. Moomey, died Thursday evening at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Firefighters were called to the apartment at 7:19 a.m. Thursday, finding Moomey outside of apartment unit #123. Moomey was the only occupant in the apartment fire. The fire investigator has determined that the fire originated in a waste paper basket between the bed and the chair. There were no working smoke alarms in the apartment.
