Iowa House District 21 candidate backgrounds

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- Anesa Kajtazovic and John Rooff are running for Iowa House of Representatives District 21.  That's the seat currently held by Kerry Burt, who is not seeking re-election.

"I want every Iowan to have the opportunity to achieve their American dream," Anesa Kajtazovic said in an interview with KWWL earlier this year.

The Democratic candidate might be young, but she has a passion for politics.  Kajtazovic is a Bosnian immigrant who arrived in Iowa in 1997.  She's the first Bosnian to ever run for the office.  Since we offered Kajtazovic an interview earlier this year, we now have a short background on her republican opponent.

John Rooff is a former Black Hawk County Supervisor, who spent 10-years as the mayor of Waterloo.  After being out of office nearly a decade, Rooff wants back into politics.

"I saw something happening, and it was that the State seemed to be going down hill, and what that meant was that everything we worked so hard for in Waterloo was at stake," Rooff said.  "I believe jobs and the economy is number one. We've got to get that back on track and we've got to stop spending."

"I brought businesses to Waterloo over the 10 years I was Mayor. I think I have the experience to do that. I think I have the knowledge," Rooff said.  "We cannot continue this pattern of spending, because we won't succeed If we do. We've got to shore up and insure that we have a good, solid educational system."

Watch for a live interview with John Rooff on the KWWL News at 5:00 Friday, Oct. 8th.  Watch for a live interview with Anesa Kajtazovic tentatively set for Monday, Oct. 11th on the KWWL News at 5:00.
