Wind farms may change air and crops nearby

Posted:

WATERLOO (KWWL) -- It's possible that wind farms could change the air around them, and nearby crop production.

A new study from the National Academy of Sciences shows that one wind farm in California caused the local area to be cooler in the day and warm up at night.

The authors believe the turbulence from the rotors helped mix the air and led to the changes.

The study found the wind farm effect could be minimized by changing the rotors' design or locating them in areas of naturally high turbulence.
